
The Flying Eagles of Nigeria will today, Monday, face Gambia in the Semi-final of the ongoing Africa U-20 Cup of Nations tournament in Egypt.
Nigeria defeated Uganda by a lone goal in the quarter-final to set-up a clash with Gambia in the last four.
The match will take place at the Cairo International stadium by 6pm (Nigerian time).
To reach the semi-final, Gambia trounced South Sudan 5-0 in the Last-8 to maintain their perfect record at the 2023 Africa U-20 Cup of Nations tournament.
Gambia are yet to lose a game in the tournament this year, winning all four with clean sheets to hold the best defence and attack record.
Nigeria who will be playing in a record extending 15th U-20 AFCON Semi-final will start as favourites to book a final spot in Cairo, based on their superior head-to-head record over Gambia.
In their two previous meetings at U-20 level, Nigeria have emerged victorious. In the Semi-final of the 2007 edition, Nigeria defeated Gambia by a lone goal to reach the final.
Olaweranju Kayode and Ramon Azeez bagged the goals as Nigeria defeated Gambia 2-0 in the last group stage match of the 2011 U-20 AFCON in South Africa.
In his pre-match press conference, Flying Eagles Head Coach Ladan Bosso said his boys were committed to the challenge of denting Gambia’s perfect record to reach the final and push for a record extending 8th AFCON U-20 title in Egypt.
