The Abia State Police Command, Tuesday, paraded a man who claims to be a native doctor, Oluebube Nwachukwu , 28, from Amagwo- Eluelu in Olokoro, Umuahia South Local Government Area, for unlawful possession of human skull and bone believed to be those of a murder victim.
Commissioner of Police, Mr. Leye Oyebade said that Nwachukwu was arrested in his place of residence following a tip- off, noting that the suspect could not, during interrogation, give a credible account of the origin of the exhibits or how he came to be in possession of them.
In an interview later, however, Nwachukwu, who insisted that apart from being a native doctor, that he was also a builder, said he inherited the human skull and bone from his late uncle who was also a native doctor.
The suspect who said he was reported to the Police by his relatives who are afraid of him because of the powers he possesses, including the power to perform magic, said the Police did not have the right to arrest him, as according to him there is no law empowering the Police to arrest native doctors.
Asked the type of ‘magic’ he performs, Nwachukwu said”I can touch somebody and his manhood will disappear”.
He said that the Police were able to arrest him because his charm travelled when his house was raided by detectives.
Also paraded was one Ben Ozinna, 27 from Utulu, Oru West Local Government Area of Imo State, who was arrested at Cemetery Market Aba for alleged production of fake gins and food drinks.
Police said the suspect was arrested in his factory at Eziukwu Cemetery Market Aba while producing the fake products.
Items recovered from him according to Police include: 24 bottles of St. Remy Martins, five cartons of Schnapps gin drinks, empty schnapps raps, and two bottles of 501 hot drinks.
But the suspect denied any involvement in the alleged crime, saying he was randomly arrested by the Police while he was passing through one of the business Lines in Cemetery market.
The suspect who said he was a trader at Ariaria International Market said he came to Cemetery Market to buy perfume before he was forced by the Police to enter into one of the shops and subsequently arrested.
Continuing, he said that other arrested suspects in the market later escaped following an attack on the Police by some irate marketers, adding that he was later taken to the Police station along with another female suspect.
“They (Police) said the girl and myself will suffer for the other suspects who escaped. They brought us to Umuahia on Saturday in handcuffs but this morning the lady is not here again.
I don’t know where they brought all these drinks from. They only ordered me to enter the shop where hair attachments were sold but now they are displaying fake drinks before me,”, he yelled.
