The Service of Songs for renowned journalist and Publisher/Editor-in-Chief of The Rainbow News, Deacon Chijama Ogbu, was held at the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG), Elijah Christian Centre, No. 1, Orowumi Street, Orile Iganmu today, Saturday, January 7, 2023 with personalities from all walks of life in attendance.

Deacon Ogbu passed on to glory at 59 on December 5, 2022.

At the programme, organised to honour the departed senior media practitioner and minister of the gospel were, among others, Mr. Anthony Chiejine, Group Chief Branding & Communications Officer, Dangote Industries Limited, Ms. Maureen Chigbo, President, Guild of Corporate Online Publishers (GOCOP) and a host of other members of GOCOP, of which Deacon Ogbu was a leading member before his demise.

Mr. Chiejine told GPNews after the solemn programme that Deacon Ogbu was an “amiable and gentle man. A peace loving  and first rate professional.” Others have likewise been eulogising the one-time Group Business Editor of the Punch Newspapers Nigeria Limited and ex-Group Business Editor of the Post Express Newspapers all in Lagos.

After today’s Service of Songs in Lagos, the rites of passage for Ogbu, a Bachelor of Arts (B.A) Hons degree in English and a Masters in Business Administration (MBA) holder of the University of Nigeria Nsukka (UNN), will continue in Enugu State his state of birth.

There will be a Christian Wake Keep on Friday, January 13, 2023, at his Permanent Home Compound at Mkpamute Ulo, Enugu-Ezike, Igbo-Eze North Local Government Area of Enugu State, a Funeral Service on Saturday, January 14, 2023, from 9:00 am before interment at his compound, opposite Community Secondary School, Mkpamute Ulo, Enugu-Ezike, Igbo-Eze North LGA, Enugu State at 11:00am.

A highly respected media practitioner, Chijama Ogbu was an incisive analyst who took principled positions on major business, economic, political and social issues of the day.

He was a member of not only the GOCOP, but also of the Nigerian Union of Journalists (NUJ) and Nigerian Guild of Editors (NGE).

He is survived by his wife, children, brothers, sisters and other relatives.
