The Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike, Friday, commissioned the Oyigbo Market road, in Oyigbo Local Government Area of Rivers State.
The Governor who chastised the care-taker chairman, Hon. Nnamdi Ihute, for his poor refuse disposal mechanism, noted that Oyigbo is a gateway into Port-Harcourt and should be clean.
His words: “This is the last time I will come to this local government for an occasion and see refuse littered everywhere like this. I will not accept it next time. Oyigbo is one of the signpost local government areas of Rivers state and should be treated as such.”
Governor Wike recalled that he promised to complete the construction of the road if voted into power as governor and thanked God that he is able to do it within his 100 days in office.
The State Chief Executive promised the people of the area that from January 2016, he will repair the road from the railway line to the boundary between Rivers State and Abia State.
The Governor also vowed to fix the road between Oyigbo and Eleme because of its strategic importance to the people of both local government areas.
He enjoined the people of the area to continuously support and pray for him-stressing that his administration is anchored on God and promised to fulfilled whatever promises he made during his campaign tour of the area.
“This administration is not a media administration; it is based on facts. It is a come and see for yourself government”, Governor Wike vaunted.
Speaking earlier, the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Works, Dr. Paulinus Nkwoala disclosed that the road is 10.745 km long and 10 meters wide with an underground drainage of 1.7km long.
Meanwhile, the state Governor, Nyesom Ezenwo Wike, Thursday, commissioned the Mbano Camp/Old Aba-Port Harcourt road to Kom-kom railway and the Iriebe Housing Estate with a declaration that his administration is based on projects delivery rather than media hype.
Speaking during the Commissioning of the Mbano Camp/Old Aba-Port Harcourt road to Kom-kom railway, Governor Wike said it is in fulfilment of the pledge he made to the Oyigbo people that he will fix the critical road before his first 100days.
He immediately directed the contractors to commence the second phase of the road which will terminate at the boundary with Abia State, adding that the second road in Oyigbo Local Government Area linking Eleme Local Government Area will be constructed to improve the economy of the two areas.
“This administration is anchored on God, which is why we will continue to win. It is not a media based administration, but one based on performance, facts and development of our beloved state.
“Whatever promise I made during the campaign, I will keep. This administration is focused on reviving Rivers State and ensuring that our people benefit from good governance,” said the governor.
At the commissioning of the Iriebe Housing Estate, Governor Wike directed that the 50 units of higher low income flats be sold to the people at affordable prices without any profit to government.
He said that his administration will be beneficial to all people of the state irrespective of their social status.
The governor stressed that his housing programme will be targeted at the less privileged to ensure that their standard of living is improved.
Rivers State Commissioner for Housing, Mr Emma Okah said the project is the first in the comprehensive housing programme of Governor Wike.
Permanent Secretary of the State Ministry of Works, Paulinus Nwankwoala said the Mbano Camp/Old Aba-Port Harcourt road to Kom-kom railway is 3.7kilometres in length and will help the people of the area overcome their difficulties.
