17 killed, 11 injured in Maiduguri multiple suicide attacks

17 people were killed, while 11 others were injured in a multiple suicide attack suspected to be carried out by Boko Haram insurgents in Kofa village of Konduga local government area of Borno state at the outskirts of Maiduguri Metropolis.
Confirming the incident, the Police Public Relations Officer Borno state command, DSP Victor Isuku in a statement said “yesterday Sunday 18/6/2017, at about 2030hrs, five female suicide bombers detonated IEDs strapped on their bodies in Kofa community. The first suicide bomber detonated near a mosque, killing seven persons. The second detonated in a house killing five persons.”
Kofa village is about 8km away from Maiduguri town, situated along Maiduguri- Konduga road.
DSP Isuku further stated that two other suicide bombers detonated their own IEDs within the same vicinity, killing the two of them.
According to the statement, a total of seventeen persons including the five suicide bombers died, while eleven persons sustained injuries and were rushed to the University of Maiduguri Teaching Hospital, UMTH.
He said an EOD team was mobilized to the scene and normalcy has since been restored.
Also confirming the incident, the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) Information Officer, North East, Abdulkadir Ibrahim said at about 8.45 pm two female suicide bombers were intercepted when they tried to gain access into Dalori 2 IDP camp.
He said “two other female suicide bombers also detonated their explosives at the adjoining Dalori Kofa village at about 8.10 pm where they killed 16 people.
The statement said a total of four suicide bombers were involved in the incident. Injured victims have been administered with first aid and transported to hospitals within Maiduguri for treatment.
