A tragic road accident occurred early morning of Tuesday, November 12, at the Etim Ekpo Roundabout, resulting in the deaths of three individuals. The crash, which involved a trailer and several other vehicles, took place around 2 a.m. also left multiple survivors receiving medical treatment for their injuries.
Gideon Uwa, Executive Chairman of Etim Ekpo Local Government Area, was on-site at the scene and provided an update regarding the incident. He expressed his condolences to the families of the deceased and praised the swift response of local emergency services. Uwa acknowledged the support of Akwa Ibom’s Governor, Pastor Umo Eno, for the timely deployment of service providers, which played a crucial role in managing the scene and transporting the injured for urgent medical care.
“The rapid and coordinated response of the state’s service providers was instrumental in minimizing further harm and ensuring that survivors are receiving the care they need,” Uwa stated in a press release issued Tuesday.
Uwa also took the opportunity to announce plans for a comprehensive review and redesign of the Etim Ekpo Roundabout to address the persistent safety concerns at the location. He emphasized that this initiative would be carried out in collaboration with the Akwa Ibom State Government in an effort to reduce the frequency of similar accidents in the future.
As the investigation into the accident continues, Uwa called on motorists to exercise greater caution on the roads, particularly as the holiday season approaches. “I urge all drivers to adhere to speed limits, maintain control of their vehicles, and prioritize safety to avoid preventable tragedies,” he urged.
The families of the deceased have been offered condolences, and further updates on the situation will be provided as new information becomes available, Uwa assured.
