2023 FIFA U-20 World Cup: Brazil defeat Nigeria to finish top of Group D

Two goals in the closing minutes of the first half was enough for Brazil to defeat Nigeria and finish top of group D at the 2023 FIFA U-20 World Cup.

Jean Pedroso headed home the first goal from a corner-kick in the 43rd minute before Marquinos shot through the legs of goalkeeper Chijioke Aniagboso for the second goal.

That was the size of the first half as the U-20 Eagles headed into the changing room trailing 0-2 in La Plata.

Brazil continued their dominance in the opening minutes of the second half before Flying Eagles Head Coach Ladan Bosso made three changes in the 56th minute to stabilize a floundering set-up.

Nigeria powered forward with the changes, pressing the Brazilians in their half for ten minutes.

Substitute Haliru Sani smashed the crossbar with a shot from the edge of the box plus a free kick that forced the Brazil goalie to tip over the crossbar for a corner kick in the 84th minute.

Jude Sunday, Samson Lawal, Tochukwu Nnadi and Haliru Sarki made Brazil work to preserve their lead.

At the expiration of regulation time, it finished Brazil 2-0 Nigeria.

With three teams tied on 6-points, it is Brazil who take top spot with a +7 goal difference. Italy take second spot with a +2 while Nigeria will reach the Round of 16 as one of the three best losers.
