‘Keke’ rider, thrown in jail by lover’s Police mother for four years without trial, freed
A 29-year-old commercial motorcycle (keke) rider in Akwa Ibom State, Ephraim Udo, who was arrested and incarcerated in the Uyo Correctional facility on the orders of a Policewoman (names withheld) for attempting to marry her daughter, has regained his freedom after four years in prison.
Udo, a native of Ikono Local Government Area of Akwa Ibom State, was set free after receiving pardon from the State Chief Judge, Justice Ekaete Obot during her jail delivery exercise and inspection of Custodial Centres in the State.
According to the prison entry book, the inmate had been in prison custody for four years without trial.
Udo told the Chief Judge that he has two children from the daughter of the Policewoman, who had vowed that “a keke man cannot marry her daughter”.
Udo said he and the Policewoman’s daughter have been in love for years, but that her mother does not want him around her daughter.
The story of Ephraim caught the attention of the Chief Judge who ordered his immediate and unconditional release.
Udo thanked the Chief Judge for coming to his aid, describing Justice Ekaete Obot as a judge extraordinaire.
