Come to APC – Senate President, Ahmed Lawan, lures Gov. Emmanuel

By Dennis Udoma.
President of the Nigerian Senate, Ahmed Lawan has urged the Akwa Ibom State Governor Udom Emmanuel to join the All Progressives Congress, APC, in its determination to develop the country.
He made the call in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State on Saturday, during the Thanksgiving service and commissioning of a multi-purpose sports center and ICT hub built by the Senator representing Akwa Ibom North East in the National Assembly, Bassey Albert Akpan.
Lawan said, ”come to APC. Even though we are not in the same political party, we are waiting for you to team up with us to develop Nigeria, because you are a champion and we are not ashamed to say it’.’
Though the Governor was silent about the open invitation by Lawan, he had, earlier in his remarks, eulogised Senator Bassey Albert’s performance in the Senate, adding that, “I want to sincerely thank Senator Albert Akpan for facilitating the building of the multi-purpose sports/civic center especially, the ICT center.
“I call on all Akwa Ibomites to make adequate use of these facilities for self enhancement and development.
He warned against abuse or vandalization of the facility which he said has been dedicated to the Almighty God.
“I want to thank God Almighty for making it possible and the Senate President to find time to come. This facility must be utilised for the purpose it was meant. We are proud of our brother Senator Albert for his being development minded and for all God has done through you’.
Senator Bassey Albert in his remarks, said he was happy to openly celebrate God’s abundant blessings upon him, his family and Akwa Ibom state in general.
Bassey admitted that he has found and obtained favor from God and thus has returned to Him in praises and Thanksgiving.
He said his tenure in the National Assembly of almost eight years has been impactful, including the positive legislations aimed at the development of the country and human development in general.
Albert noted also that, he has constructed roads in various parts of his senatorial district and empowered the constituents with thousands of scholarships in tertiary institutions in Nigeria, as well as entrepreneurial development of thousands of people of the district in the past seven years.
He pledged to do more for the people for their support to him as their Senator in the National Assembly.
The event was attended by members of the National Assembly led by the Senate President, members of the State Exco led by Governor Emmanuel, PDP chieftains, women, youth, traditional rulers and the Clergy amongst others.
