
Mr Paul Arkwright has been appointed the British High Commissioner to Nigeria, to succeed Sir Andrew Pocock KCMG, who will be retiring from the Diplomatic Service soon.
The newly-appointed High Commissioner, Arkwright, would officially assume office from September 2015. He is married to Patricia Anne Holland, and their marriage has been blessed with one son and a daughter.
Prior to his appointment as British High Commissioner to Nigeria, he had served in different positions as follows; 2013 – 2015 FCO, Director, Multilateral Policy; 2009 – 2013 The Hague, Her Majesty’s Ambassador; 2006 – 2009 FCO, Head, Counter-Proliferation Department; 2006 FCO Participant in Higher Command and Staff Course, Defence Academy Shrivenham; 2001 – 2005 UKDEL NATO, Political Counsellor; 1998 – 2001 Paris, First Secretary Political; 1997 – 1998 Secondment to Quai d’Orsay, Paris, UN & International Organisations department; 1993 – 1997 UKMis New York, First Secretary Political; 1991 – 1993 FCO, Head of Conventional Arms Section Non Proliferation & Defence Department; 1988 – 1991 British Military Government Berlin (later British Embassy, Berlin Office), Second Secretary Political; and 1987 – 1988 FCO, Desk Officer, Hong Kong Department, respectively. He joined FCO in 1986.
