The Super Eagles made a flying start, taking the lead in the 14th minute when Remo Stars right-back Sodiq Ismail delivered a delightful cross into the box. Cyriel Dessers, making his return to the national team, controlled the ball smartly before calmly slotting it past the Ghanaian goalkeeper. It was a special moment for Dessers, who last scored for Nigeria in a friendly against Ghana in 2024.
Nigeria doubled their lead just five minutes later. A well-taken free-kick from Samuel Chukwueze was met in the air by defender Semi Ajayi, whose header deflected off Ghana debutant Rasaq Simpson and ended up in the back of the net. The own goal gave Nigeria a comfortable 2-0 lead at halftime.
Ghana responded in the second half, pulling a goal back in the 70th minute through forward Brandon Thomas-Asante. Despite late pressure from the Black Stars, Nigeria held firm to seal the win and secure a place in the final.
The highly anticipated fixture reignited one of Africa’s most famous football rivalries and served as a crucial test for both teams ahead of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations and the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers.
Nigeria will now face Jamaica in the final on Saturday, 31st May, also at the Gtech Community Stadium. The Reggae Boyz booked their spot after a 3-2 win over Trinidad & Tobago in the first semi-final on Tuesday, May 27.
