Police authorities in Yenagoa, the Bayelsa state capital, have confirmed the arrest of three notorious armed robbers responsible for terrorising their victims at gunpoint in communities in the state.
The command said those arrested were among the five-man gang that robbed one Wisdom Angaye of N500,000 and two mobile phones as well as two ATM cards at Sabageria/ Okoloba in Kolokuma/ Opokuma area of Bayelsa state.
Confirming the arrest, Police Public Relations Officer, Bayelsa state, ASP Asinim Butswat, said the three suspects were among the robbers that has been terrorizing residents of the city, adding further that two other members of the gang were on the run.
“The police has extended its dragnets to arrest the fleeing suspects,” said the police spokesperson.
“On the 4/8/2015, at about 02:10 pm, five armed men in a Mazda 323, with REG No. DZ 907 LSD, robbed one Wisdom Angaye, male, at gunpoint and collected the sum of N500,000,00 cash, two mobile phones, and two ATM cards, at Sabageria/Okoloba, in Kolokuma/Opokuma LGA,” the report said.
The police image maker in the statement said the robbers had earlier robbed one Agbozu Imomotimi and Collins Agbaowei of their handsets in the same community.
On how the suspects were nabbed by his command, Butswat said the victims alerted Patrol Teams, attached to Kaima, Police Divisional Headquarters.
“Consequently, the Patrol Teams embarked on Stop and Search Operations, on the road linking the Community to the East/West Road. The armed robbers on sighting the police, abandoned their vehicle and ran into the bush. The Policemen pursued them and arrested three suspects,” said Butswat.
The command gave the names of the three arrested suspects as Prince Brian, male, aged 24 , Salami Taiwo, male aged 29, and Samuel David, male, aged 20 .
