Team Nigeria finished the 2026 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow as the best-performing African nation, placing seventh on the final medal table.
Nigeria won a total of 24 medals – 10 gold, seven silver and seven bronze.
Australia topped the table with 70 gold medals, while England and Canada completed the top three.
Nigeria finished ahead of countries such as Jamaica, Wales, Malaysia and South Africa, maintaining its position as Africa’s leading nation at the Games.
However, Nigeria’s medal haul was lower than its performance at the 2022 Commonwealth Games in Birmingham, where the country won 35 medals, including 12 gold.
The Glasgow performance means Nigeria won 11 fewer medals and two fewer gold medals than it did in Birmingham.
South Africa was the second-best African country, finishing 11th with seven gold, 11 silver and 10 bronze medals.
Kenya came 13th with three gold, four silver and five bronze medals, while Mauritius finished 15th with one gold, two silver and one bronze.
Cameroon placed 16th with one gold, one silver and three bronze medals. Uganda finished 27th with two silver and one bronze, while Namibia came 29th with one silver and two bronze.
Ghana finished 30th with one silver and one bronze.
Other African countries to win medals included Lesotho, Zambia, Gabon, Rwanda and The Gambia.
In total, 13 African nations won at least one medal in Glasgow.
Despite the drop in numbers compared with Birmingham, Nigeria’s seventh-place finish and position as Africa’s top nation underline its strong performance across several sports and its continued place among the Commonwealth’s leading sporting countries.
