As Bayelsa community welcomes over 300 members of Nigerian Guild of Editors to the state for its conference, an armed gang of sea pirates has abducted two monarchs and one security detail along the Ogbia / Brass waterways of the state.
However, a supervisor with the state Ministry of Education heading to Brass, a naval officer and a former Chief Librarian in the Rivers State University of Science and Technology, Chief Jigekuma Ombu-Kieri were said to have escaped unhurt.
The victims include; two Okpoama chiefs identified as Chief Blessing Wagio and Chief Isaac Akono-Igolo, as well as a security man whose identify could not be ascertained.
The trio were abducted, Wednesday while travelling on the waterways of the state.
The victims’ boats were said to have left the Ogbia water front at about 2pm for Brass when they came under attack around Kiberibio area of the Ogbia-Brass waterway, noted for sea pirates’ attacks.
Eyewitness said in one of the boats, Mrs Kilete Arum told our correspondent that she saw an unidentified man lying face down in the pirates’ speed boat when they were being dispossessed of their valuables.
When contacted, Police spokesman, Asinim Butswat, confirmed the development but said he was yet to get details.
