D’Tigers beat Cameroon to finish top of Group at Afrobasket

Nigeria’s D’Tigers finished their group stage campaign at the 2025 Afrobasket in Luanda, Angola, with a perfect record after beating Cameroon 101-92.

Already through to the quarter-finals, the Nigerian team sealed first place in Group B with the victory over a determined Cameroonian side.

The turning point came in the second quarter when D’Tigers outscored Cameroon 32-16 to lead 60-43 at half-time. By the third quarter, Nigeria had stretched the lead to 86-55 before Cameroon reduced the gap late in the game.

Josh Okogie (16 points), Caleb Agada (15), Stan Okoye (14), Michael Mekowulu (12), Ike Nwamu (12) and Stephen Igbanu (10) all scored in double figures as Nigeria made it three wins from three, following earlier victories against Madagascar and defending champions Tunisia.

The result means D’Tigers finish top of Group B with a 3-0 record and will face the third-placed team from Group A in the quarter-finals.

The game also brought back memories of the 2009 quarter-final in Libya, when Cameroon shocked Nigeria 84-80. This time, however, it was Nigeria who proved stronger.
