Police nab 3 armed robbery suspects in Bayelsa; recover stolen money

Police authorities in Bayelsa state have confirmed the arrest of three notorious armed robbery suspects who robbed a couple, Mr and Mrs Eric Oyinodokoye of the sum of N300,000 while commuting in a commercial tricycle in Yenagoa, the state capital. The hoodlums, police said also shot the Keke operator in the head before snatching the sum from the couple.

The suspects, police said, committed the act along the Oxbow Lake, Swali in the state capital.

The command said the four-man robbery gang operated in a Volkswagen car with registration number, AL 305 AGU.

Confirming the arrest, Police Public Relations Officer, Bayelsa Police Command, Asinim Butswat, said one of the suspects was later caught by a mob but was beaten to death before the arrival of the police.

The incident, police said happened at about 12.00 hrs on Saturday as he gave the names of the armed youths as Aya Victor, aged 23 , Ebi Godwin, aged 20, Ejike Igwe and Jeff.

He also said the keke operator was taken to Federal Medical Centre, Yenagoa for treatment as he gave the name of the deceased robber as Jeff.

Butswat said the corpse was deposited at the Federal Medical Centre for autopsy as the fourth suspect was trailed and arrested at Swali Community in possession of a locally-made pistol and N144,500, part of the stolen money.

The command therefore, advised members of the public to continue to support the Police in fighting crime, ‘but not take the law into their own hands by beating suspects.’
