EFCC Football Club on Wednesday evening knocked Akwa United FC out of the 2023 Nigeria Federation Cup after a prolonged shootout at the Awka City Stadium.
The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission team stunned their more illustrious opponents with a first half strike.
Two-time Federation Cup winners Akwa United FC pressed for an equalizer and eventually found one when Azeez Olamilekan connected a cross from James Ajako in the 52nd minute.
With the equalizer, Akwa United FC did push for a winner to no avail as EFCC who play in the Nigeria National League forced shootouts vs their elite division opponents.
A prolonged shootout saw both teams take a combined 20 kicks. Akwa United FC defender Wisdom Ndon missed his kick to allow EFCC score and progress to the last-16.
