Edo guber polls: New Jersey, USA, mobilizes for Senator Monday Okpebholo

The Edo State governorship race of Senator Monday Okpebholo of the All Progressives Congress (APC) received a big boost on Sunday, June 9, 2024.
On the eventful day, Edo State indigenes in New Jersey, United States of America (USA) and their friends and associates, came out en masse to pledge support for Okpebhole’s bid to occupy Osadebe House, the state’s seat of power.
With Ambassador Western Iyamu as the Chief Host, the gathering, of mostly young and successful Edo state professionals in the Diaspora, was addressed, on behalf of Senator Okpebholo, by Hon. Omorede Osifo, the Deputy National Treasurer of the APC and former two-time Commissioner in Edo State.
Amb. Iyamu welcomed the guests, which included Chief Olamide Davies Talabi,  Taxi Commissioner in the City of Newark, New Jersey,  Dr. Nelson Aluya, the National President of the Nigerian America Public Affairs Committee (NAPAC), Anthony Afolo, Chairman,  African Commission,  Newark City Council and Ugo Nwaokoro, former Deputy Mayor (International Relations and Diaspora Affairs), Newark City Council.
Iyamu made it clear that most of the young people in the meeting played key roles in the electoral success of the incumbent governor, Dr. Godwin Obaseki, but that they are highly disappointed by his woeful performance in the last eight years.
Insisting that they are this time ready to make the best choice out of the candidates on the ballot for the September election,  Iyamu encouraged all in attendance to support Senator Monday Okpebholo.
He pointed out that based on the Senator’s track records of achievement so far and his promises of what he would do for the state when he becomes the state’s Chief Executive, he was sure that Okpebholo would perform creditably as governor.
Hon. Osifo reinforced the assurances of Amb. Iyamu concerning the APC candidate and reeled out all that Okpebholo, a successful businessman before joining politics, had achieved for his constituents since becoming their Senator.
She, too, wrote off Obaseki’s administration as a failure, stressing that the incumbent governor was a part of the APC before his incompetence and arrogance became apparent.
She, therefore, urged all in attendance to not only support Okpebholo but to mobilize their relatives, friends and associates in Edo State, to vote the Senator into office as Governor.
Chief Olamide Davies, an activist and community leader and others who attended the meeting, held in Union, New Jersey, also spoke in strong support of the APC candidate, stressing that he is the best candidate for the governorship position of Edo State.
