Nigeria has been crowned the winner of the ICC U19 Women’s World Cup Africa Qualifiers, securing their place as Africa’s representative at the 2025 ICC Under-19 Women’s World Cup in Malaysia. The Nigerian team earned this achievement after their final match against Zimbabwe in Kigali, Rwanda, was abandoned due to rain.
Finishing the tournament unbeaten, Nigeria topped their group and were declared winners, highlighting their dominant performance throughout the competition.
Uyi Akpata, President of the Nigeria Cricket Federation (NCF), expressed his pride in the team’s dedication and praised the contributions of the players, board members, coaches, and technical staff in making the victory possible.
“We need to prepare well for the World Cup with more resources and a strong plan,” Akpata emphasised, focusing on the challenges ahead.
Nigeria’s path to qualification included impressive wins over Tanzania, Zimbabwe, and Malawi, along with a vital semifinal triumph against hosts Rwanda. The team is now setting their sights on the World Cup, scheduled to take place in Malaysia from January 18 to February 2, 2025.
