The State Coordinator, Evidence for Action (E4A), Ahmed Mohammed Ahmed has lamented the increase in national mortality rate from 547 to 567 in every life births in the country.
Ahmed Mohammed revealed this during a meeting to strengthen the existing MamaYe Youths Clubs Activist o solicit the commitment of the leadership of the institution towards the formation of “Mamaye Youths Club” as well as Recruitment of more mamaye activists and formation of the club in the Bauchi State University
According to him, Bauchi state is one of the worst places for a woman to deliver in the country.
Out of the estimated 295,000 deliveries per anum in the state, he said only 16 per cent of the women in the state delivered in health facilities as compared to the national average of 36 per cent.
The Coordinator appealed to the Activist to support the State Government five point health Agenda and called on the State Governor, Mohammed Abdullahi to ensure that every maternity ward in all the secondary health facilities have at least 4 midwives to ensure skilled delivery at birth.
He added “One major area that has received negligible attention over the years is the adequacy of budgetary provision and irregular release of budgeted funds for the health sector leading to poor performance of the state’s health”.
According to him, majority of Nigerians believe that the quality of health services in Nigeria is poor and have lost confidence in the services.
