Gov Eno approves ₦20,000 monthly allowance for Akwa Ibom Corps members nationwide

Uyo, July 7, 2025

Akwa Ibom State Governor, Pastor Umo Eno, has approved a ₦20,000 monthly allowance for all National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) members of Akwa Ibom origin serving across Nigeria.

The decision was part of the resolutions reached at the State Executive Council meeting held on Monday, July 7, 2025.

The new allowance applies to Akwa Ibom indigenes serving in any part of the country, and will take effect from August 1, 2025. It follows the governor’s recent announcement increasing the state allowance for all NYSC members serving within Akwa Ibom from ₦5,000 to ₦20,000.

Governor Eno explained that the move is in line with his administration’s Renewed Hope – ARISE Youth Support Initiative, aimed at supporting young people and easing the burden of rising living costs.

“This initiative reflects our commitment to the welfare of our young people and the belief that they deserve support as they serve our nation,” the governor said.

The governor also noted that the grant would be subject to periodic review depending on the economic situation and budgetary considerations.

This development comes just weeks after Governor Eno approved the reconstruction of the NYSC Orientation Camp at Ikot Itie Idung in Nsit Atai, further cementing his administration’s commitment to youth development and corps welfare.

The NYSC scheme, launched in 1973, is a compulsory one-year service programme for Nigerian graduates under 30. It plays a vital role in national unity, deploying young people to communities across the country to contribute in areas like education, healthcare, agriculture, and rural development.

Akwa Ibom State is widely regarded as one of the safest and most supportive environments for corps members in Nigeria. With this new allowance, the state further strengthens its reputation as a youth-friendly destination.
