Super Eagles captain and new General Manager of Kano Pillars FC, Ahmed Musa, has denied rumours that he gave out cars to players and officials of the club.
Some social media posts on Tuesday, July 8, 2025, had claimed that Musa celebrated his appointment by giving out brand-new SUVs, including luxury Land Cruisers, to members of the team. The news quickly spread online, with many people praising Musa for the alleged gifts.
However, Musa responded on Tuesday through his official social media pages, calling the reports “false information.”
He said: “It has come to my attention that false information is being circulated claiming that I distributed cars to players and officials. This claim is entirely untrue.”
He urged the public and media to stop spreading unverified news and to always check facts from reliable sources.
“Spreading unverified news not only misleads the public but also harms the club and its leadership,” he added. “Our focus remains on building a strong, disciplined, and successful team.”
The rumour first appeared on X (formerly known as Twitter), but was later debunked by sports journalist, Nsikakabasi Akpan, who posted on Facebook:
“When you come across news that Ahmed Musa has bought cars for all Kano Pillars FC players and officials, type FAKE NEWS.”
He explained that Musa had only just resumed duties on Monday, July 7, and had made no such promise or announcement.
Club officials and players also confirmed the story was false. A player currently training with the team, Chimeremeze Celestine, said:
“It’s a big lie, I am here with Pillars and there is nothing like that.”
The photo shared online showing SUVs was also discovered to be from a different event and not linked to the club.
This incident shows how easily fake news can spread online, especially about popular figures like Musa, who many people follow and admire.
Musa, 31, has now taken over as General Manager of the four-time Nigerian league champions and says he is focused on leading the club back to success.
