In a statement released on Tuesday, July 22, 2025 and shared via Buhari’s official social media handle, Malam Mamman Daura, the most senior member of the Buhari family, conveyed the family’s appreciation on their behalf.
Daura thanked President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, First Lady Senator Remi Tinubu, and Vice President Kashim Shettima for their roles before and after Buhari’s death. He acknowledged the President’s thoughtful gestures, including declaring a public holiday and renaming the University of Maiduguri in honour of the late leader.
“It is truly comforting to receive such support from the President, Vice President, and other leaders during this period of grief. These acts have given us the courage to face this loss,” Daura said.
The family also extended appreciation to world leaders, including King Charles III of England, the United Nations Secretary-General and Deputy Secretary-General Amina Mohammed, the African Union Chairman, and the ECOWAS Heads of State. Former Head of State, General Abdulsalami Abubakar, was also mentioned for his presence and condolences.
The statement further thanked state governors, past and serving national leaders, former Vice Presidents Atiku Abubakar, Namadi Sambo, Yemi Osinbajo, and Babagana Kingibe, as well as Senate President Godswill Akpabio, House Speaker Tajuddeen Abbas, and members of the National and State Assemblies.
Traditional rulers, religious leaders, civil society groups, security agencies, and the business community—including Aliko Dangote, Abdul Samad Rabiu, Muhammadu Indimi, Dahiru Mangal, Kola Adesina, and Nasiru Danu—were also recognised for their solidarity.
“All of Nigeria came out in force to bury Buhari and pray for him. We are deeply grateful for the visits, the condolence messages, and prayers. May Almighty Allah bless and reward you all,” the statement concluded.
The message was signed by Garba Shehu on behalf of the Buhari family.
