‘No second term for you’ – ADC tells Tinubu

The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has warned President Bola Tinubu that his mandate ends in 2027, rejecting claims from the Presidency that he could remain in office until 2031.

In a statement by its National Publicity Secretary, Mallam Bolaji Abdullahi, the party said Nigerians would not want Tinubu’s rule extended “by a single day” because of what it called insecurity, economic hardship, and abuse of power under his government.

“Given the banditry, killings, hunger, and suffering in the country, the President should be preparing to leave in 2027. Any plan to stay beyond that date shows this government is out of touch with reality,” Abdullahi said.

The ADC also dismissed the Presidency’s response to former Kaduna governor Nasir El-Rufai’s warning that Tinubu wanted to become a “life President.” The party said Tinubu was acting as though re-election was guaranteed, without showing accountability to Nigerians.

On security, the ADC accused the government of allowing terrorists and bandits to operate freely, while on the economy it blamed Tinubu for the collapse of the naira, rising inflation, job losses, and the suffering of businesses.

“Food prices have tripled, the middle class is disappearing, and citizens are poorer and angrier since Tinubu came into office. Instead of planning for another term, he should be preparing to leave. He has done enough damage,” the party said.

The ADC further accused Tinubu of trying to impose on Nigeria the same political dominance he held in Lagos after serving as governor.

“Nigeria is not Lagos. Nigerians are watching. And come 2027, it won’t be APC versus ADC – it will be APC versus the Nigerian people,” the statement concluded.
