Nigerian stars clash as Oshoala’s late strike wins it for Al Hilal against Plumptre’s Al Ittihad

The Saudi Women’s Premier League witnessed a thrilling showdown between Nigerian internationals Asisat Oshoala and Ashleigh Plumptre, as Al Hilal snatched a 3–2 victory over Al Ittihad in Jeddah.

Plumptre was a standout performer for Al Ittihad, creating two assists that kept her side in the contest. Her 85th-minute cross brought the score level at 2–2, sparking hopes of a dramatic comeback for the home side.

But in the final moments, Oshoala made the difference. The Super Falcons striker, fresh from her move to Al Hilal, struck decisively in the 90+3rd minute to seal the win and break Ittihad hearts.

Speaking after the game, Plumptre showed sportsmanship and praised her fellow Nigerian.
“Proud of the team tonight. Happy to contribute with two assists, and even though the result didn’t go our way, it was great to share the stage with my fellow Super Falcons sister, Asisat Oshoala. We fight hard on the pitch, but there’s always respect beyond it. On to the next challenge!” she said.

The clash highlighted not only the growing strength of the Saudi Women’s League but also the impact of Nigerian talent abroad, with Oshoala and Plumptre proving to be key figures for their respective clubs.
