Dan Agbese’s death: Atiku Abubakar, Peter Obi mourn

Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar and 2023 presidential candidate of the Labour Party (LP), Mr. Peter Obi, among many other Nigerians, are mourning the passage of frontline veteran journalist, Mr. Dan Agbese.

While Mr. Obi, a former Governor of Anambra State expressed sadness at the demise of Agbese, who he described as “a consummate columnist, a remarkable journalist, and a passionate advocate for a better Nigeria,” Alhaji Abubakar expressed shock at the news of the passing of one of the doyens of magazine publishing in the country.

Mr. Obi, in an X post said that Agbese, throughout his life, worked tirelessly “to highlight the challenges facing our nation and inspired many with his vision for progress and good governance. He also contributed immensely to journalism through robust engagements and the mentoring of younger colleagues.”

Obi also noted that the departed journalist stood by him “during the electioneering period, lending his voice and pen in support of my efforts to serve the people. His commitment to truth, integrity, and the development of Nigeria will be sorely missed.” He prayed for the repose of Agbese’s soul and for comfort and strength for his family, colleagues “and all who were touched by his work.”

Alhaji Abubakar, in his message, also on X, noted that Agbese, who he described as a good friend of his, and who had at different times during his lifetime, offered him professional media strategies, “was a senior citizen in all ramifications,” insisting that “his demise will create a crater in the field of media management in Nigeria.”
