Gen. Musa is a square peg in a square hole as Defence Minister – Rambi Ayala

A frontline Gombe politician and philanthropist, Rambi Ibrahim Ayala, has described the appointment of General Christopher Musa (rtd), Nigeria’s new Minister for Defence, as placing a square peg in a square hole.
According to Rambi, a chieftain of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in Gombe State, “President Tinubu deserves commendation for this strategic choice”.
He said, “at a time when Nigerians yearn for competence rather than political convenience, President Tinubu has demonstrated that leadership is not just about appointments but about aligning national needs with national assets.
“This move reflects foresight and a willingness to entrust national defence to someone whose life’s work has been defending the nation. In choosing Musa, the president has shown that he values continuity, credibility, and courage”, Rambi pointed out.
Rambi Ayala, who served for two terms in the Gombe State House of Assembly and is also a former State Chairman of the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP), described Gen. Musa’s appointment as bridging the perennial gap between operational realities and policy formulation.
He said, “Few ministers have walked the trenches, commanded battalions, negotiated peace corridors, and coordinated joint operations across land, air, and sea.
“Musa, however, understands the terrain, not from briefings, but from lived experience. Appointing him is like handing the compass to the sailor who has mastered the storms; like giving the reins to the horseman who knows every contour of the battlefield”, Ayala maintained.
Analysing Nigeria’s security predicament, Ayala stated that, “For a nation facing insurgency, banditry, and emerging security threats, Musa’s presence at the helm signals a future where Nigeria’s defence architecture may finally receive the coherence and discipline it desperately needs.
“His appointment is not an experiment; it is a calculated reinforcement. If the defence sector were a vast field of scattered weapons, Musa is the armourer who knows which blade is dull, which rifle misfires, and which soldier needs retraining.
“This historic and timely choice brings renewed hope. The soldier-turned-statesman steps into office not as a stranger, but as a familiar guardian returning to strengthen the walls he once defended.
“If experience is the lamp by which nations navigate treacherous nights, then General Musa is himself a beam of light.
“In a nation where security challenges often feel like a storm that refuses to calm, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has taken a decisive step that resonates with strategic wisdom.
“This choice is not just timely, it is historical, thoughtful, and deeply aligned with the demands of the moment. In a political landscape often criticized for misalignments, this move is akin to placing a square peg firmly in a square hole”, he opined.
