Nigeria wrapped up the group stage of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations in style with a convincing 3–1 win over Uganda on Tuesday night at the Fez Stadium in Morocco.
The Super Eagles, who had already secured qualification, started strongly and took the lead in the 28th minute. Paul Onuachu scored from close range after meeting a low cross from Fisayo Dele-Bashiru. Nigeria controlled the first half, using their pace and movement to trouble the Ugandan defence.
Uganda’s situation worsened early in the second half. In the 56th minute, their substitute goalkeeper was sent off for handling the ball outside the penalty area while trying to stop a shot from Victor Osimhen.
Nigeria increased the pressure and doubled their lead in the 62nd minute. Samuel Chukwueze broke down the wing and cut the ball back for Raphael Onyedika, who controlled well and finished calmly into the bottom left corner.
Five minutes later, Onyedika scored again. After another good move involving Onuachu, Chukwueze provided the assist and the midfielder fired a low shot from the edge of the box into the bottom right corner to make it 3–0.
Uganda pulled one goal back in the 75th minute when Okello set up Rogers Mato, who chipped the ball over goalkeeper Francis Uzoho. However, the goal was only a consolation as Nigeria remained in full control until the final whistle.
The result saw Nigeria finish top of Group C with a perfect nine points from three matches. Uganda ended the group at the bottom and were eliminated.
In the other Group C match, Tanzania came from behind to draw with Tunisia. Tunisia finished second with four points, while Tanzania progressed to the knockout stage as one of the best third-placed teams.
