Trump, Nigeria, terrorism & the crocodile tears of ‘sovereignty’ proclaimers By Victor Oladokun

A few days ago, the Trump Administration, in concert with the Nigerian Government, unleashed the wrath of precision military technology against certain terrorist cells operating out of Sokoto State, Nigeria.
Suddenly, apologists for the terrorists, dressed in Babanrigas and Agbadas of various hues, along with a motley crew of pseudo writers, have found their voice.
Overnight, they have inundated the social media space with a false narrative that by allowing the #UnitedStates to intervene militarily in #Nigeria, the Tinubu Administration ceded the country’s sovereignty to America.
What unbelievable and imbecilic hogwash!
Only in Nigeria is reality sometimes stranger than fiction!
I cannot but ask, where were these voices over the last 16+ years when:
● Villages were erased
● Churches and Mosques were attacked and burned
● Children were kidnapped
● Women were raped
● Entire communities wiped out and
● Almost 4 million Nigerians ended up as IDPs – Internally Displaced Persons – in their own country!!!
So, I ask the question:
Where on earth was your outrage when Nigerians were being slaughtered like animals?
Where were your crocodile tears then?
Suddenly, you have remembered ‘sovereignty.’
Where were your faux tears when thousands of terrorists and bandits brandishing AK47s stormed into villages and towns, only to be heralded “heroes” by local communities hosting and shielding them?
For 16 years, you, the apologists of entrenched interests, have had zero empathy for millions of victims.
Instead, you said the terrorists should be understood, placated, pardoned, and even financially induced.
You took a doctrine of appeasement and ransom economics to unheard of heights at sub-national (State Government) levels. Your pronouncements are public records.
In the process,
● Terror was normalized
● Justice was jettisoned
● Criminals were negotiated with, and
● Victims were further victimized by your loud silence.
Was all of this not an abdication of sovereignty?
Suddenly, you want to raise a false narrative of ‘sovereignty’ over a joint tactical military mission that is long overdue?
Really?
Shame on all who support this twisted notion and narrative.
Nigeria has every right to cooperate with the US Government, or any other government for that matter, to rightly and surgically remove elements of a pervasive cancer that has overun Nigeria and held it hostage for almost 20 years.
There will be more joint tactical attacks against terrorists in Nigeria. Not less. This is only the beginning. Not an end.
You do not neutralize terrorists with one surgical strike but with successive, strategic, coordinated, and devastating attacks … militarily, psychologically, and financially.
We’ve been held captive for way too long by some criminal collaborators in power. It will take a while to extricate Nigeria from their hands and from the hands of #terrorists, militants, and criminal elements.
Let’s be patient.
For now, and on this matter, the #Tinubu Administration needs all the support it can get.
Nigeria and Nigerians should not be intimidated nor misled by these false proclaimers of national sovereignty!
God Bless Nigeria!
