The Federal Government has announced that outstanding match bonuses owed to the Super Eagles at the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) in Morocco have now been released.
The confirmation was made on Thursday by the Minister of State for Finance, Mrs. Doris Uzoka-Anite, in a statement shared on her official X account. She explained that the payments followed the resolution of earlier administrative and foreign exchange challenges.
According to the minister, the government worked in collaboration with the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) to clear the issues that had delayed the release of funds. She said all group-stage bonuses have passed the required approval stages, with payments already being transferred to the players.
Uzoka-Anite noted that special arrangements were made to convert the funds into foreign currency in line with the players’ preferences. She added that transfers into the players’ domiciliary accounts were ongoing and expected to reflect within a short period.
The update comes amid reports that members of the Super Eagles had expressed concerns over unpaid bonuses and threatened to boycott travel arrangements for a scheduled AFCON fixture before the matter was addressed.
The minister assured that steps have now been taken to avoid similar delays in the future, stressing that the payment process has been improved to meet international standards.
She reaffirmed the Federal Government’s support for the national team, saying priority remains the welfare of the players as the tournament moves into its crucial knockout phase, with the ultimate aim of winning the AFCON title.
