Uzodimma: Only God can take credit for my achievements in six years

…. Church leaders laud Governor’s exceptional leadership in Imo

Governor Hope Uzodimma of Imo State on Wednesday, January 15, 2026, marked the sixth year anniversary of his administration with a Thanksgiving Service at the Government House Chapel, Owerri, remarking that the credit for his modest achievements in the period under review goes to God only.

Addressing the congregation after the Church Service which coincided with the 2026 Armed Forces Remembrance Day, the Governor expressed gratitude to God for the progress recorded in Imo State over the past six years, describing the achievements of his administration as a “product of divine guidance.”

He commended religious leaders, community stakeholders, and security agencies for their support, and sought for continued prayers for peace and stability in Imo State.

The Governor also acknowledged the significance of being sworn in on Nigeria’s Armed Forces Remembrance Day, and paid glowing tribute to security personnel for their sacrifices.

He reassured Imo citizens that the State had moved past its most challenging period and was now on a steady path of progress and development. The Governor enjoined the people to work together to protect and preserve the gains so far recorded in Imo State under his administration.

He concluded by reaffirming his commitment to good governance and encouraged Imo people to remain, not just united and hopeful for greater achievements ahead, but to continue to pray for God’s grace upon the State.

Congratulating the Governor on his six years anniversary, the Catholic Bishop of Owerri Archdiocese/Archbishop Metropolitan, Most Rev. Dr. Lucius Ugorji who officiated the Thanksgiving Mass, commended Governor Uzodimma, for what he described as “significant achievements recorded within his six years in office.”

Bishop Ugorji praised the administration’s investments in road and social infrastructure, as well as the Skill Up Imo programme, which he said has empowered youths with employable skills and boosted entrepreneurship through digital innovation.

The Bishop also noted improvements in security across Imo State, which he said enabled residents to travel home safely during the Christmas and New Year periods.

He, however, condemned recent criminal activities, including the discovery of an illegal mortuary in Ngor Okpala, expressing hope that such acts would be completely eliminated through government’s efforts.

Bishop Ugorji further paid tribute to members of the Armed Forces for their sacrifices in safeguarding the nation, urging continued remembrance of our fallen heroes.

Earlier in his homily, Bishop Ugorji called for gratitude, faith, and right motives in seeking God, encouraging the faithful to respond to divine blessings with thanksgiving.

The highpoint of the Thanksgiving Service was the presentation of Award as “Doyin of Ecumenism” to Governor Uzodimma by the Christian Council of Nigeria (CCN), the oldest Christian body in Nigeria, by its Chairman, Rt. Rev Dr. David Onuoha, the Anglican Archbishop of Owerri Ecclesiastical Province.

Bishop Onuoha who came with his brother Bishops who are also members of the CCN, including the Anglican Bishop of Mbaise Diocese, Rt Rev. Chamberlain Oguledo, lauded Governor Uzodimma for doing the Church in Nigeria proud regardless of denominations.

He agreed with Bishop Ugorji that Uzodimma’s administration has impacted Imo State positively in so many ways and urged the citizens to continue to pray for the Governor.

The event was attended by the Deputy Governor, Lady Chinyere Ekomaru, and her husband, Chukwuma, the Secretary to State Government, Chief Cosmos Iwu, members of the Imo State expanded Executive Council and other political appointees, former Governor of the State, Chief Ikedi Ohakim, former Deputy Governors – Prof. Placid Njoku, Sir Jude Agbaso and Dr. Ada Okwuonu; Security Chiefs, members of the Federal and State legislators, traditional rulers, the clergy, and All Progressives Congress chieftains and other critical stakeholders.
