Qatar Stars League side Al Ahli SC have officially signed former Super Eagles captain William Troost-Ekong from Saudi Pro League club Al Kholood, Bold Sports reports.

The club announced the deal on Tuesday via their Instagram page, welcoming the experienced Nigerian defender with the message:
“He’s here, he’s ready. Welcome to the club William. Let’s make history together.”

The 32-year-old centre-back has put pen to paper on a contract that will keep him at Al Ahli until June 2028, ending his one-and-a-half-year stay in Saudi Arabia. Troost-Ekong joins the Qatari side after an influential spell at Al Kholood, where he made 49 appearances and served as team captain.

At Al Kholood, Troost-Ekong played a vital role in keeping the team in the Saudi Pro League, providing leadership and defensive solidity. His performances made him one of the standout figures in the squad.

Al Ahli have confirmed that Troost-Ekong will wear the number 5 jersey as he begins a new chapter in Qatar. The club are currently ninth in the Qatar Stars League with 15 points, four points above the relegation zone. His arrival is expected to boost their push for a higher league finish this season.

Troost-Ekong brings a wealth of experience from across Europe and the Middle East, having previously played in the Netherlands, Belgium, Norway, Turkey, Italy, England, Greece, and Saudi Arabia. His signing is seen as a major reinforcement for Al Ahli as they aim to build momentum in the second half of the campaign.
