Egypt’s Pyramids FC depart Uyo after 4-1 win, praise hosts for smooth stay

Defending champions Pyramids FC of Egypt have left Uyo after their 4-1 victory over Rivers United in the CAF Champions League on Sunday.

In a formal notice signed by AKSFA Liaison Officer Nsikakabasi Akpan, it was confirmed that the team departed on a chartered flight immediately after the match.

“The Egyptian delegation departed via a chartered flight immediately after the match on Sunday,” Akpan stated in the notice.

The delegation, led by Club President Mahmoud Eid, also praised their hosts for the warm reception and smooth organisation during their stay in Nigeria.

“The delegation expressed their appreciation to Rivers United, the Akwa Ibom State Football Association and the fans for what they described as a hitch-free and pleasurable experience in Nigeria,” the notice added.

Pyramids FC also thanked the organisers for the quality of facilities and logistics in Uyo. “Pyramids FC thanked the organisers for the warm reception, smooth logistics and the high standard of facilities during their stay in Uyo,” Akpan wrote.

On the pitch, Pyramids showed their class despite several injuries. Rivers United took the lead in the 33rd minute through Manyo, but the visitors turned the game around in the second half. Fathi scored the equaliser in the 52nd minute, Marwan added a second in the 66th minute, and late goals from Odeh and Nasser completed a convincing 4-1 win.

The result confirmed Pyramids’ dominance in the match and ended Rivers United’s hopes in the competition.
