Nigeria international Victor Osimhen emerged as the match-winner as Galatasaray S.K. secured a hard-fought 1–0 away victory against rivals Beşiktaş J.K. in a tense Turkish Süper Lig clash on Saturday.
The heated encounter at Tüpraş Stadyumu delivered plenty of drama as both sides battled intensely throughout the contest. The physical nature of the match saw the referee hand out ten yellow cards and one red card before the final whistle.
Despite the pressure and fiery atmosphere, Galatasaray managed to stay composed and claim a vital three points as they continue their strong pursuit of the league title.
The decisive moment arrived just before half-time when Leroy Sané delivered a precise cross into the penalty area. Osimhen reacted quickly, rising above his defender to power a close-range header into the right side of the net.
Beşiktaş had entered the match in strong form, having avoided defeat in the league since November, and were expected to provide a stern test for the visitors.
The clash also attracted attention as Osimhen faced his Nigeria national football team teammate Wilfred Ndidi for the third time in their careers. Their previous two meetings had ended in draws, but this time the Galatasaray striker had the final say.
Both teams began the game cautiously, enjoying spells of possession without creating clear chances. However, Galatasaray eventually broke the deadlock through Osimhen’s clinical header.
Sané floated a clever pass into the penalty area and the Nigerian forward timed his leap perfectly to beat his marker and guide the ball into the net.
The goal also saw Osimhen equal the best scoring run of his career. The striker has now been directly involved in goals in each of his last eight league matches, scoring eight times and providing four assists, marking one of the most impressive streaks of his professional career.
