President Bola Tinubu has expressed appreciation to King Charles III following his reception in Windsor on Wednesday during his ongoing state visit to the United Kingdom.
In a message shared on social media, the Nigerian leader thanked the monarch for the warm welcome and reaffirmed the strong relationship between both countries.
“Thank you, Your Majesty, King Charles III for the warm welcome in Windsor today,” Tinubu wrote.
“Our meeting this afternoon further strengthened my resolve in the strength of the partnership between our two countries. Nigeria and the United Kingdom remain united by shared purpose, history, and a clear vision for the future.
“Looking forward to the Royal Banquet this evening.”
President Tinubu and his wife, Oluremi Tinubu, arrived in London on Tuesday through Stansted Airport to begin the historic visit.
According to an update by his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, the President and First Lady were received earlier by Prince William and Catherine, Princess of Wales at the Fairmont Hotel. The Nigerian leader was also seen inspecting a guard of honour.
The visit marks the first state visit by a Nigerian leader to the UK in 37 years. Tinubu is expected to be formally received at Windsor Castle, where King Charles will host a state banquet later in the evening (Wednesday).
Nigeria and the United Kingdom continue to maintain strong diplomatic and economic ties. Both countries signed a strategic partnership agreement in November 2024 aimed at boosting cooperation in trade, immigration, and security. Trade between the two nations reached £8.1 billion in the year ending September 2025, reflecting steady growth.
During the visit, key issues such as infrastructure development, including British-backed port projects in Nigeria, are expected to be discussed.
The trip also comes at a time of security concerns back home, following recent attacks in northeastern Nigeria. President Tinubu had earlier directed security chiefs to relocate to Maiduguri to manage the situation.
On Thursday, the President is scheduled to meet Keir Starmer as well as members of the Nigerian community in the UK as part of his official engagements.
