Super Eagles winger Samuel Chukwueze has praised the progress made in Abia State after he was hosted by Governor Alex Otti in Umuahia.
Chukwueze visited the governor alongside some of his friends to thank him for attending the burial of his late mother last week.
The Fulham star commended Governor Otti for the visible development across the state, especially the improvement in road infrastructure.
According to Chukwueze, he was impressed by the transformation he noticed during his recent visit to Umuahia.
“I have been seeing the good work the Governor is doing. When I came back and saw Umuahia, it was completely different. The roads have improved greatly, and the transformation is visible. He deserves every accolade for the good work he has been doing,” Chukwueze said.
The Nigeria international also welcomed the governor’s plan to build a new stadium city in Umuahia. He described the project as a major step towards improving sports development in the state.
Chukwueze said the proposed facility would create opportunities for young footballers and help position Abia as a leading sports destination.
The former Villarreal winger also revealed his desire to contribute to sports development in his home state.
“I intend to invest in sports development for the youth, and I am already working on it gradually, step by step.
“It is my hometown and where I grew up. It made me who I am today, and I cannot forget where I came from,” he added.
Governor Otti congratulated Chukwueze on his achievements in football and praised him for being a good ambassador of Abia State.
The governor assured the Super Eagles star of the state’s support and encouraged him to continue making Abia proud through his performances on and off the pitch.
Otti also disclosed that the state government has acquired land for the construction of a new stadium city in Umuahia and hopes to begin the project before the end of the year.
