Former UN boss, Muhammed-Bande, to chair International Conference in Sokoto

The Department of Mass Communication, Usmanu Danfodiyo University, Sokoto (UDUS) is set to host it’s maiden international conference beginning from June 7, 2026 with the theme, “Media And National Development in the Era Of Artificial Intelligence,” a statement by Dr Danladi Bako has confirmed.

Dr. Danladi, who is the Chairman, Organising Committee of the conference divulged that the former United Nations General Assembly President, Professor Tijjani Muhammad-Bande will chair the conference.

Giving details of the conference, Dr. Danladi said, June 7th being the 1st day will witness a pre- Conference lecture by Prof. Fatma El-Sayed of Cairo University, Egypt at 1pm.

The international conference, which will critically dissect the media and its intersection with artificial intelligence in an ever-changing digital world”, will be officially opened on June 8th at the University Auditorium by chief host and Vice Chancellor of the institution, Prof. Bashir Garba

Stressing how prepared and delighted the institution feels to host such a conference of international stature, the Vice Chancellor, Prof. Bashir said, “We are very ready to host the international academic community”.

Part of the statement by Dr Bako read: “The Pro-Chancellor and Chairman of the University Governing Council Professor Attahiru Jega will be in attendance as well at the opening ceremony along with his council members.

“Highlight of the conference is the Keynote lecture by double Fulbright scholar Professor Kehbuma Langmia of Howard University, Washington DC, United States of America. The theme of the Conference is “Media and National Development in the Era of Artificial intelligence” and this will set the trajectory for robust intellectual discussions by lead paper Presenters and panelists drawn from different universities from Nigeria and stakeholders from the Nigerian society.

“It is expected that the department of Mass Communication of the host University will also unveil the maiden edition of its journal titled ALKALAMI Journal of Communication and Media Studies.
The fourth day promises to be memorable and fulfilling for visitors and the academic community at large”,
Dr Danladi Bako assured.
