The keen contest to elect the Speaker of the House of Representatives has recorded an upset as Hon. Yakubu Dogara from Bauchi state in the North East geo-political zone of the country has defeated the candidate of the party with the majority of members in the lower chamber, Hon. Femi Gbajabiamila from Lagos state in the South West zone.
There was a similar result in the contest for the position of Senate President which Bukola Saraki from North Central zone won against the candidate of the APC leadership, Ahmed Lawan. Lawan and Senators elected on the APC platform boycotted the election.
The leadership of the APC is already protesting what it terms treachery by some of its members who went into alliance with members of the two chambers elected on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP,
Dogara polled 182 votes to defeat Gbajabiamila who got 174 votes. Two votes were voided
