Saibari strike gives Morocco narrow win over Scotland at 2026 World Cup

Ismael Saibari’s early goal proved decisive as Morocco secured a narrow 1-0 victory over Scotland in their second group-stage match at the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

The Atlas Lions produced another disciplined and mature performance to follow up their opening draw against Brazil, collecting three important points that move them closer to qualification for the knockout rounds.

Morocco made the perfect start, scoring just 72 seconds after kick-off. Saibari reacted quickly inside the box to finish off a flowing move, registering the fastest goal of the tournament so far and giving Morocco an immediate advantage.

After the early breakthrough, Morocco controlled possession and dictated the rhythm of the game for much of the first half. Scotland worked hard to recover and gradually grew into the contest, but they struggled to create clear chances against a well-organised Moroccan defence.

In the second half, Scotland pushed higher up the pitch and increased their attacking pressure in search of an equaliser. However, Morocco remained compact and disciplined, with goalkeeper Yassine Bounou commanding his area and making key interventions when needed.

The Atlas Lions also threatened on the counter-attack and looked dangerous whenever they broke forward, though they were unable to add a second goal to kill off the game.

The final stages saw Scotland commit more players forward, but Morocco held firm under pressure to protect their slender lead until the final whistle.

The result leaves Morocco in a strong position in the group with four points from two matches, continuing their impressive start to the tournament.

Saibari’s match-winning goal earned him Man of the Match honours, while head coach Mohamed Ouahbi praised his team’s unity, discipline, and growing confidence on the world stage.
