Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN), Oyinkansola Badejo-Okusanya, has been elected as the 33rd President of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA).
The results of the election showed that Badejo-Okusanya polled 12,317 votes, representing 47.18 per cent of the total votes cast. She defeated Lateef Akangbe, SAN, who received 7,934 votes, while Olumuyiwa Akinboro, SAN, came third with 5,855 votes.
The election also produced other national officers. Oghenero Okoro was elected First Vice President with 11,024 votes, Afam Okeke won the position of General Secretary with 8,478 votes, Aghogho Gladys emerged as Assistant General Secretary after polling 14,312 votes, while Chinelo Audrey Ofoegbunam was elected Welfare Secretary with 14,911 votes.
Following her victory, Badejo-Okusanya thanked members of the Association for the trust they placed in her.
In a message shared on social media on Sunday, she described her election as both an honour and a responsibility. She said she was grateful to every lawyer who supported her vision and to all those who took part in the election.
She also thanked her campaign council, volunteers, coordinators, supporters, family and mentors for standing by her throughout the campaign.
“The campaign is over. The work begins now,” she wrote.
Badejo-Okusanya promised to lead the Association with integrity, humility, courage and accountability. She said she would work with members to build an NBA where lawyers can earn better, live better and practise better.
She ended her message by praying for the Nigerian Bar Association and the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
