Flying Eagles defeat Ghana 4-2 in WAFU B U20 Championship opener

Nigeria’s Flying Eagles started their 2026 WAFU B U20 Championship campaign with an impressive 4-2 victory over Ghana’s Black Satellites on Monday.

The Flying Eagles made a bright start as Olayemi Ayinla opened the scoring in the sixth minute with a powerful strike.

Ghana fought back and levelled the score in the 23rd minute through Mohammed Zaidan, but Nigeria regained the lead seven minutes later when Lucky Oraro’s free-kick took a deflection before finding the net.

The Flying Eagles extended their advantage before half-time after Muiz Adeleke calmly converted a penalty in the 38th minute to make it 3-1.

Ghana reduced the deficit in the 60th minute when Kelvin Nkrumah scored from the penalty spot, setting up a tense final half-hour.

Nigeria stayed in control despite the pressure, and Adeleke sealed the victory in the 89th minute with his second penalty of the match after the Flying Eagles were awarded another spot-kick.

The 4-2 win sends Nigeria to the top of Group B and gives the Flying Eagles a strong start to their campaign.
