Ambassador Fanny Amun has resigned as chairman of the Nigeria Football Federation’s (NFF) fact-finding committee after submitting the panel’s report, according to Brila Media.
Amun said he had stepped down after completing the committee’s assignment, explaining that he did not want to remain in the position and risk any form of “compromise” after the report had been submitted.
The NFF set up the six-member committee to investigate Nigeria’s recent struggles in international football and make recommendations on how to improve the administration and performance of the country’s national teams.
The committee was inaugurated on August 17, with Amun appointed as chairman.
Its main task was to examine the reasons behind the recent poor results involving Nigeria’s national teams, with particular attention on the Super Falcons’ failure to qualify for the 2027 FIFA Women’s World Cup.
The Super Falcons missed out on the World Cup after their quarter-final exit at the Women’s Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco and a 2-1 defeat to South Africa in the subsequent playoff for a place in the Inter-Confederations Playoffs.
As a result, Nigeria will miss the Women’s World Cup for the first time since the tournament began in 1991.
Amun served on the committee alongside former Nigeria U-20 coach Ladan Bosso, former Super Falcons captain Desire Oparanozie, former Super Eagles captain Mutiu Adepoju and former FIFA referee Dr Alex Mana.
Nasiru Sa’idu served as the committee’s secretary.
With the report now submitted, Amun has formally left the position, bringing his role in the NFF’s fact-finding exercise to an end.
