
No fewer than 4, 219 persons were diagnosed and treated during a two day free medical services programme sponsored by the member representing Yamaltu- Deba Federal constituency, Gombe state, Honourable Ahmed Yunus Ustaz (APC).
Chairman of the Medical Committee for the exercise, Dr. Habu Dahiru said the outreach was designed to offer medical services for the less privileged people of the area.
He said some of the services rendered include immunization, consultation for women, children and the elderly, addressing emergency surgeries that may arise, addressing eye problems among many others.
He said there was also the screening for hypertension, diabetes, HIV/AIDS and hepatitis and those found positive were counseled and given medication while chronic cases of other ailments were referred to government health facilities for follow-up
According to him, “The whole idea is to complement government efforts because it should not be left alone to offer health and other service when there are those that could help” he said.
He said his team of 24-man medical/paramedical personnel, including nine consultants attended to people from across the local government area during the two day exercise.
Chairman of the Mission and Chief Executive officer of the collaborating NGO, Rural Health Mission Nigeria, Mohammed Sadiq said the objective of the outreach include health advocacy, treatment of minor out-patient cases and dispensing free medical supplies to patients.
Speaking on behalf of the initiator, his Special Adviser, Mohammed Kabiru Kuri said Honourable Ustaz had five other programmes in education, agriculture and youth empowerment.
Kabiru urged National and State Assembly members from the state, local government and other wealthy individuals to emulate the member as they would not only be assisting the government but touching the lives of the voiceless in the society.
One of the beneficiaries, Adamu Abubakar Ajiya said they learnt about the programme and decided to participate because it was a relief for him, his wife and son.
