The 11-man committee constituted by Wife of the President, Mrs Aisha Buhari, under the chairmanship of Borno State Governor’s wife, Nana Kashim Shettima, has flagged-off the distribution of relief materials to the camps of internally displaced persons (IDPs) in Maiduguri, Borno State.
Flagging-off the distribution at the Dalori IDPs camp, the state commissioner for Women Affairs, Hajiya Fanta Baba Shehu, said the relief materials donated by the wife of the president will be distributed equally among the IDPs in order to alleviate their plight.
“As mother of the nation, the wife of the president sympathizes with your condition and has given assurances that the distribution of the relief materials is sustained even when relocated to your communities after the insurgency,“ the commissioner said.
She said the committee started the distribution in Dalori camp because the camp is the largest in the country, with a population of over twenty thousand, adding that the distribution will be carried out throughout the 23 camps in Maiduguri.
The commissioner said in the first phase of distribution 1,350 IDPs will benefit, especially nursing mothers and children, adding that the president has donated a lot of materials including food items, beverages and clothing materials.
Responding, a beneficiary, Aisha Bukar thanked the wife of the president for the kind gesture and ‘prayed that God in his infinite mercies give her long life and guidance, so as to continue assisting the needy,’ adding that ‘this is the first time the wife of a sitting president came to Maiduguri and donated assorted relief materials to IDPs.’
