Governor Adams Oshiomhole of Edo State would on Wednesday deliver the Correspondents’ Chapel of the Edo Council of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) lecture.
The lecture titled, “Dwindling Revenue from Crude Oil: The Challenges for State Governments,” would be the first in the series of public lectures to be organised by the current leadership of the chapel.
The event, which would have such personalities as the former governor of Old Bendel State, Dr Samuel Ogbemudia and Chief David Edebiri, would be chaired by the Enogie of Evbuobanosa, Prof Gregory Akenzua.
The chairman of Correspondents Chapel in Edo, Mr Simon Ebegbulem, said the topic was carefully chosen in the face of the growing challenges being faced by states as a result of the fall in international price of crude oil.
He said the lecture would also see other speakers bare their minds on the same issue aside the lecture that would be delivered.
According to him, “It becomes imperatives for Nigerians, especially those in leadership positions to begin to think that we had it much better in the pre-oil era.
“Some of us are worried about the current state of things in most states of the federation where governments have found it increasingly difficult to meet their financial obligations owing to the dwindling revenue from crude oil.
“We, the pen-pushers felt it was high time we start giving priority attention to other sources of generating revenue outside oil,” he said, notin that organised labour as well as Civil Society Organisation’s have been invited to be part of the event.
