Ahead of 2019 general elections in the country, the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has zoned its presidential slot to the North-Eastern geo-political zone of the country as part of its strategy to unseat the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC.

Global Patriot Newspapers, GPN, authoritatively gathered that, the two key positions of President and Vice-President are zoned to the North-East and South-East respectively, while the position of Senate President is allotted to the South-South geo-political zone.

A source close to the party’s Zoning Committee who pleaded anonymity hinted that, the positions were shared in a manner that would energize the party to recover its lost glory.

The Committee which rose from its closed door inaugural meeting on Saturday in Uyo, the Akwa Ibom State capital had reached a consensus on zoning but refused to disclose the benefiting regions.

Chairman of the Committee and Governor of Akwa Ibom State, Mr. Udom Emmanuel, while briefing newsmen shortly after the meeting at Government House, Uyo said, the zones that benefit from the positions would be made known to Nigerians during their final meeting.
.
He expressed the hope that, with the unity of purpose by members of the Committee, the party would bounce back in 2019.

Governor Emmanuel expressed his appreciation to Nigerians and the party for the opportunity given them to serve, saying that, the unity amongst the members was indicative that everybody was ready to return the party to the peak of power where it was before it lost the elections to the APC in the last general elections.

Members of the Committee include governors, members of the National Assembly and other senior members of the party from different parts of the country.
