In its effort to complement the efforts of the Federal and state governments, Dangote Foundation has flagged off its Ramadan feeding for Internally Displaced Persons, IDPs, in Borno state with 148 households from Guzamala local government area who are currently taking refuge at Bakassi Camp in Maiduguri, the state capital.
While flagging off the distribution, Governor Kashim Shettima said the distribution of the food items shows the commitment of Dangote Foundation towards the plight of the less privileged, more especially those displaced by Boko Haram insurgents.
The governor said “This is not the first time the Foundation is intervening in the state, as you earlier sent N400 million which were distributed to IDPs and the less privileged members of the society. Dangote in collaboration with Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation also intervened in health matters, women empowerment and education sectors”
In her remarks, the Managing Director Dangote Foundation, Hajiya Zouwaira Youssufu said 10,000 households will benefit from the Foundation’s gesture in the state, as part of the Ramadan gesture of the Foundation.
She said “so far out of the 106 trucks of assorted food items 43 trucks have already arrived Maiduguri and is targeted at 10,000 households across the state”.
Earlier in his welcome address the Chairman Borno State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA), Engineer Satomi Ahmed said 1,572 IDPs will be benefitting from the Dangote Foundation’s gesture from 148 households.
He said “each household will go home with at least one bag of rice, one bag of Semovita, one carton of Dangote noodles, two packets of Dangote cube, one carton of Dangote pasta, among other items for the next one month.”
