Stanbic IBTC donates N12m to fund limbless children’s education

Stanbic IBTC Holdings Plc, a member of Standard Bank Group, has enhanced the fortunes of 13 children without limbs, with education grant totaling N12 million to ensure that the challenged children emerge future champions through sound education.
This was a demonstration of the bank’s commitment to helping children and the youth achieve their life ambitions and contribute to the advancement of the society.
Each of the eight beneficiary children at a recent charity walk organised by the bank, having been fitted with prostheses/artificial limbs, got an educational trust fund of N1.5 million. Last year, five children benefitted from the educational trust fund and prostheses, bringing to 13 the number of beneficiaries.
Stanbic IBTC 2016 charity work on Saturday, 24 September, tagged “Together4 A Limb” was part of the company’s activities to raise awareness for children without limb.
The 3-kilometre charity walk was attended by wife of the Zamfara State governor, Hajiya Asma’u Yari. She represented, Mrs. Aisha Buhari, wife of Nigeria’s President who was guest of honour at the event. Mrs. Yari made the cheque presentation to the beneficiary children on behalf of Aisha Buhari.
According to the Chief Executive of Stanbic IBTC Holdings Plc, Mrs. Sola David-Borha, the initiative is an important part of the Group’s corporate social investment, which focuses on health, education and economic empowerment.
David-Borha said that the charity walk is vital to draw attention to the dilemma of children who have limb losses. She added that the walk is also of greater benefit to the children, their parents/guardians and the society, as this informed the prostheses and education fund, Stanbic IBTC is giving to the beneficiaries.
“This event is a very important CSR initiative, which helps Stanbic IBTC to contribute meaningfully to the society. Through the provision of prostheses and education trusts to indigent children who have suffered limb losses, we are assisting young Nigerians to enable them get on with their lives in a productive manner,” David-Borha said.
The Stanbic Chief Executive explained “The education trust will provide for the education of the beneficiaries for as far as they are willing and able to go and will enable them realize their God-given potential.”
The Zamfara State Governor’s wife, Mrs. Yari commended Stanbic IBTC for the initiative, adding that it was an ideal cause which should be emulated by other corporate organizations and well-meaning Nigerians.
Yari said the First Lady is particularly pleased with the initiative because she is so passionate about children. “I feel honoured to be a part of this wonderful cause. Reaching out and helping children with limbs losses and giving them a new life to become worthwhile individuals has gone a long way to show that Nigeria is indeed ready for change,” she said.
David-Borha assured that the Stanbic IBTC Group will continue to impact the lives of children and society as much as possible through its CSR initiatives.
