Njoku who gave the warning in an exclusive chat with our correspondent in Umuahia , said that ” there is no guarantee that the detained terrorists if released, will not unleash further havoc on the citizenry in future”.
The social crusader also noted that Buhari had while seeking election in 2015 promised to rescue the missing Chibok girls within three months if voted into power.
He wondered why the President would be considering the option of prison swap after spending over 15 months in office when he had earlier boasted that he had the capability to secure unconditional release for the abducted girls.
Njoku also said Buhari had criticised his predecessor, Dr. Goodluck Jonathan when the former President said he could negotiate with Boko Haram for the release of the girls, arguing that “it amounts to double standard and deception for him to turn around now and say he wants to negotiate with the same terrorists”.
According to him, “negotiating with terrorists for whatever reason is a sign of cowardice which must not be tolerated, else, the terrorists will be emboldened.”
He further flayed Buhari over the prevailing harsh economic situation in the country, lamenting that the President has failed to live up to his responsibility of providing economic security for Nigerians.
The activist who posited that ” most Nigerians hardly eat once a day under the current economic situation,” called for Buhari’s immediate resignation ” for leading Nigeria into recession.
His words: ” Buhari should resign because he has not demonstrated any capacity to manage a big economy like Nigeria. He inherited a buoyant economy but in less than one and half years, he has crashed the same economy that was once the first in Africa.
” If it were in saner societies Buhari should have long ago resigned voluntarily, but he should be reminded that Nigerians are disappointed in his fake change which has impoverished everyone.”
Njoku regretted that ” this ‘change’ has now turned Nigerians into beggars” and urged Buhari to look beyond party affiliations and bring on board experts and technocrats to drive the nation’s economy.
” The increasing number of Nigerians committing suicide daily because of harsh economic condition under Buhari’s watch is enough danger signal that if those with better knowledge of economic management are not brought on board quickly, half of the population would have been dead before the President completes his tenure.
” Therefore, the most honourable thing is for Buhari to either fish out the experts to pilot the economy or throw in the towel if the job is too enormous for him “, he said.
