Impressed by the achievements of some transition committee chairmen in Enugu State, the Deputy Governor, Mrs. Cecilia Ezeilo, has called on council authorities to embark on projects and policies that would reshape the lives of the rural dwellers for the better.

The deputy governor made the comment when she received the executive committee members of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Ezeagu Local Government Area who paid her a courtesy visit at the Government House, Enugu, Thursday.

Re-affirming the commitment of the Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi administration to make rural development its key focus despite the unhealthy economic situation in the country, Mrs. Ezeilo charged council chiefs to strive to be catalysts for development in rural areas in order to bring government closer to the grassroots. “Development is very important when it is located where it is meant,” she said.

She praised the leader of the team and the chairman of the council’s caretaker committee, Mr. Chukwudi Ezinwa, for successfully uniting factional groups, noting that the gesture had brought peace and development to the council area.

The deputy governor also commended the council boss for establishing an economic committee, adding that the step should be emulated by other councils for rapid development.

Earlier, Mr. Ezinwa, explained that the visit was informed by the need to appreciate the administration for the quality of leadership the governor and his deputy has demonstrated.

He explained that following the government’s directive for various leaders to hold meetings and reach a consensus on what they consider the most expedient needs in their councils, they were pleading for the extension of the 9th Mile – Ajali road to Agu Obu-Owa to make transportation much easier for the people.
